Pacific Rim Jaeger Fan Art: Azure Defiant/Philippines & Sierra Vigilant/Canada
Totally looking forward to Pacific Rim, so much so after seeing all the awesome fan art of artists making custom Jaegers for the different countries using apps.warnerbros.com/pacificrim/designer/us/ I decided to go against the grain and do a custom one using my photoshop skills and adding my own heritage to the mix, so introducing Azure Defiant of the Philippines. =).
Update: Kinda late to the game but found out there was a Design your own Jaeger Contest sponsored by IGN and Legendary Films. The finalist will be judged by Guillermo Del Toro himself. So I decided to enter Azure Defiant into the fray, but I wasn’t going to let it him go mix it up with the Kaiju without giving him an upgrade. I updated and upgraded Azure Defiant 2.0 and entered him into the contest…God’s Speed Azure Defiant.
Update I just added my own custom banner with my three custom Jaegers.
Had so much fun making Azure Defiant, so on behalf of my Fiance she asked me to make a Jaeger for her country Canada, so I introduce to you my two versions of a Canadian Jaeger Sierra Vigilant and it’s upgrade with some feedback from so cool folks on deviantart (I know the Sierra isn’t in Canada but rather refers to the NATO phonetics of the letter “S”)

My Sleeper Pick for the Summer: Pacific Rim
When I was a kid, nothing was more fun than a UHF channel (didn’t have cable) Godzilla marathon on a Saturday afternoon, I would play along with my legions of Star Wars, GIjoe. and Transformers figures as they stood against my “Godzilla” (A stuffed animal T-rex stand in, the real toy at this time was beyond my grasp) on the living room floor. I would watch these giant monsters battle for hours on end and as a kid and plot, special effects, writing, acting that didn’t matter as I ate this stuff up and my appetite for this seemed insatiable. Godzilla was my “entry drug” into Japanese anime and cinema as I soon discovered Ultra Man, Star Blazers, G-Force, Voltron and Robotech (the latter fueling my love for Giant Robots),. However as I got older I noticed these movies playing less and finding them on tv became a rare and with other fandoms and the growing pains of high school tugging at me, my “old friend” took a long nap in the backseat.

Fast forward to present day and right now my fandoms are fierce and many. I try to balance between my fiancé, work and my fandoms which include Star Wars, Mass Effect, Community, Dr. Who, Marvel Comics, Halo, and the Walking Dead, and Fan Art keep my busy, but one night a few months ago Godzilla popped in my head and like looking up an old girlfriend on Facebook, I googled “Godzilla” to see how my old friend had been doing then I found it out that aside from a horrible American made hiccup in 1997, the Japanese had rebooted the franchise in early 2000s and I had myself a Godzilla renaissance. Thanks to the Internet I discovered there was a Japanese Godzilla reboot and my gosh I watched feverishly online and it culminated Godzilla Final Wars from 2004 and it GLORIOUS many of the monsters from my childhood made an appearance and even American version and with a surprise villain monster reveal in the end that blew my socks off. So I’ve been primed for awhile now for anything monster/giant robot related.
Now the summer is fast approaching and I’m totally looking forward to the obvious blockbusters. I’m sure Iron Man 3, Star Trek into Darkness, Man of Steel will blow my mind, but Guillermo Del Toro, Pacific Rim which is kinda under the radar has coincided with my Godzilla renaissance and is now the movie I’m totally looking forward to. I mean giant freaking monsters versus giant freaking robots, I’m not sure the 8 year old in me needs a plot, it just needs this to happen, even though the monsters featured in the film is not Godzilla, I know the monsters in this movie are definitely paying homage to the main monster of all monsters Godzilla. Now let’s talk about the the “Mechs,” These mech’s I think look pretty awesome, I love how they tried to incorporate the county’s design sensibilities into the design of the mech. Right now Australia’s Stryker Eureka is my favorite. I’ll update this post as I learn more and I will try not to post any spoilers.

Check out this from TheForce.net on a new Star Wars animated series set 15 years post-Return of the Jedi (which would put it about halfway to when Episode VII is rumored to begin). The same development team behind The Clone Wars is working on this and it looks extremely intriguing.

Mass Effect/Avengers Fan Art Crossover Mash-Up
In honor of the new Mass Effect Citadel DLC I did another mash up. Based on the Captain Shepard I did for my Game Avengers Mash Up I decided to expand and chose my Avengers squad. =) More to come soon including Admiral Anderson Fury, Miranda Hill and the Illusive Loki, still trying to figure who Coulson would be. Here is my latest my interpretation of Video Game characters that would best fit the Avengers in one poster. I still have Mass Effect’s Shepard/Captain America, Halo’s Master Chief/Iron Man), Metroid’s Samus Aran/Black Widow, God of War’s Kratos/Thor, Assassin’s Creed’s Connor/Hawkeye, Metal Gear’s Solid Snake/Nick Fury, Half-Life’s Gordon Freeman/Agent Phil Coulson, Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft/Maria Hill, and swapping out Brick Hulk from Borderlands with Rick Taylor from Splatterhouse/Hulk seemed to fit just a lil bit better and just for fun Portal’s Companion Cube as the Companion Tesseract. Mass Effect Trilogy Fan Art Triptych
Getting creative using some of my graphic design skills and inspired by Mass Effect Trilogy promotional artwork and Screenshots (Credit to Original Art Sources and Owners Bioware, EA) Just had to follow inspiration once again. This piece was jump started by playing the Omega DLC this past week which led to the idea to make each game set an individual piece or together as a triptych much like the Halo one I did earlier. Love the game series and when I get an idea in my head it’s hard to get it out until I finish it. So here you go the Mass Effect Trilogy Triptych. Video Game Avengers Assemble! Fan Art Mashup
I’m not sure why, but photoshop mash-ups of fandoms i’m into seem to be the fun way to express my creativity lately. Here is my latest my interpretation of Video Game characters that would best fit the Avengers. I have Mass Effect’s Shepard/Captain America, Halo’s Master Chief/Iron Man (I’m sure at one point or another John-117 has worn the Mark IV), Metroid’s Samus Aran/Black Widow, God of War’s Kratos/Thor, Assassin’s Creed’s Connor/Hawkeye, Metal Gear’s Solid Snake/Nick Fury. I know there are probably other better matches but I tended to choose the games and characters I’m really into. Maria Hill, Agent Coulson, War Machine are other characters i’m thinking of doing next.
UPDATE: Thanks to some awesome suggestions, from Yoshi, Bane, Blanka, Shadow of the Colossus, and Rick Taylor to Brick from Borderlands, and based on what official artwork I could find I think we have a Hulk mash-up now, Brick from Borderlands/Hulk and runner-up Rick Taylor. UPDATE 2: Been getting a lot of feedback on “Black Metroid’s” name, here is some clarification on my thought process I know her name is Samus Aran, if I was basing it on her character’s name I would’ve called her “Natasha Aran” or “Samus Romanov,” but i’m basing it on her super hero name which is a “Black Widow”… a dangerous and deadly creature, I “mashed up” the name of the character “Black Metroid” not after the name of the game but after the dangerous and deadly creature in the game which is a “Metroid”. I think I tried to get too creative or clever in my naming sorry for the confusion.

Finished Halo 4…had to make this Cortana & Master Chief fan art
Just finished Halo 4 *Spoiler Alert* and man I really kinda didn’t dig humans being Prometheans/Didact storyline…, love the new weapons/armor but man the story of Chief and Cortana is what it’s been about…so the ending really got to me. To quote Sargent Major Johnson “Don’t let her go… don’t ever let her go.”Had to express it so I made this lil fan art piece that I hope kinda encapsulates the feels of it all.

Halo 4: 11.6.12 – MasterChief & Cortana Fan Art
Sooooo excited Halo 4 is coming on 11.6.12. A little worried about the new storyline as the single player campaign is my main focus, but excited for a new game to start playing, as I’ve replayed Mass Effect 3 over and over for the last few months. The digital artwork coming out looks phenomenal which allowed me to make a few digital art posters of master chief and cortana. Here they are:
